Agreement to promote the Network of Cities of Science and Innovation


The Government has approved the Council of Ministers an agreement to recognize and promote the actions undertaken by Local Government in science and innovation, particularly in the context of the Network of Cities of Science and Innovation. This network aims to promote collaboration between local councils to help change the production model to a sustainable economic and social model, based on knowledge and innovation.





The Network of Cities of Science and Innovation will be made by those municipalities that have earned the distinction "City of Science and Innovation", according to the notice of Ministry of Science and Innovation, which opened on 1 October.
The Ministries of Science and Innovation and Regional Policy will encourage the development of this network by setting the appropriate benefits under the policies of ID i and local development, including, among others, national and international promotion of cities as models and concerning the scientific and innovation culture in Spain, preferential consideration for the location of scientific and technological facilities owned or state-owned and the location of the network of the Ministry of Science and Innovation information points on ID i (red PIDI) .
Similarly, priority given to these cities as preferred places for organizing the meetings of the ministerial departments with the Autonomous Communities and other agents of the ID i, and holding conferences and seminars.
The investments made by local councils in terms of innovation with the State Fund for Employment and Local Sustainability, administered by the Ministry of Land Policy, reached 916 million euros distributed in a total of more than 7,650 projects.
This agreement is part of the Council of Ministers in the State Innovation Strategy objectives for the promotion of technological development and innovation as a fundamental paradigm shift in production in Spain.
