Local Governments Network Biodiversity 2010
Local Governments Network + Biodiversity 2010
The Local Governments Network + Biodiversity 2010 is the FEMP Section devoted to the promotion of local policies for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and the preservation of natural heritage.
This Network, strengthened through the Agreement of Collaboration between the FEMP and the Ministry of the Environment and of Rural and Marine Environments, has focussed on the promotion of local policies for the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, the preservation of natural heritage, and the promotion of rural development under sustainability criteria since it was formed in March 2007.
The Local Entities affiliated to the Network must commit themselves to the following objectives:
• To promote strategies, plans, programs and projects for the organization of municipal territories based on the sustainable development of the municipalities that guarantee the operation and ecological dynamics of the natural territories present in these municipalities, making the growth of systems that have been damaged or destroyed in the past possible whenever achievable.
• To promote strategies, programs and projects to preserve and increase biodiversity in urban resources.
• To educate and heighten citizen awareness regarding the importance of being able to avail of an adequate environment with a high degree of biological diversity as an essential element for human health and the preservation of natural heritage.
The Network is presided by Mr. Felipe López, the President of the Provincial Delegation of Jaen.
At present, 202 Local Entities are affiliated, representing 20,678,735 inhabitants.
