Summit of Mayors, Mayors and Cities of Europe on Drugs in Latin America and the Caribbean


Facts, experiences and future challenges in the development, practice and improvement of public policies on drugs are the attractions that focus the work of Mayors, Mayors and local officials in Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean during the World Summit on this issue Lugo events taking place in the next 21, 22 and 23.


The Summit of Mayors, Mayors and Cities between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean will be the setting in which to analyze various municipal policies on both sides of the Atlantic, with particular emphasis on the causes of social exclusion of individuals and their links with the drug use, both in terms of prevention and treatment as well as strategies, programs and tools provided by different institutions for the development of sound public policies in reducing drug demand. So, Lugo wants to become the forum for necessary dialogue between different institutions and perspectives related work should be to achieve integrated policies at the municipal level (health, social services, justice and security, among others).

The Summit is organized by the City of Los Angeles with the support of the Government Delegation for the National Drug Plan of Spain, the Ministry of Justice, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the CARICOM Secretariat, the Provincial de Lugo among other national and international institutions. Framed in all activities of the Spanish six-month presidency of the European Union, the Summit is part of the proceedings of the draft EU-LAC (Latin America, Caribbean) Cities Alliance in Drug Treatment, an initiative coordinated by the Inter-American Commission Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) and the Secretariat for Multidimensional Security of the Organization of American States (OAS), and funded by the European Commission.
