FEMP representatives involved in the World Urban Forum


FEMP representatives have participated in the V World Urban Forum being held in Rio de Janeiro, under the theme "The Right to the City: bridging the divided city" is the conference organized by UN-HABITAT with the order to seek common solutions to help ensure access for all citizens to basic public services in the communities where they live.


FEMP's involvement has come in the three events on the network: one on the local dimension of the Alliance of Civilizations, the other on integrated urban rehabilitation, and a third on balanced participation of women and men as a basis for economic development. FEMP representatives in these forums have been the mayor of San Sebastian, Odon Elorza, and Deputy Mayor of Malaga, Spain Carolina.
Under the Local Dimension of the Alliance of Civilizations, Elorza has defended the use of public spaces as a catalyst for urban basic tool for social cohesion and one of the thermometers on the quality of life and safety of neighborhoods and cities .
Carolina Spain, meanwhile, defended the policy and equal-Spanish Local Governments in the debate on balanced participation, social advantage and economic development as it affects both policy areas such as social or personal. The workshop presented and discussed about the situation in Norway, Spain and Guatemala.
Finally, both local representatives attended the event on comprehensive urban rehabilitation, an important tool in their view, to achieve the objectives of urban and regional sustainability
