Depopulation and small municipalities in the agenda of local governments Intermediate


Intermediate Spanish Local Governments, through the Provincial Committee, Councils and Island Councils of the FEMP, will have a full schedule of activities throughout 2010, with a strong institutional presence in various public forums for discussion. The depopulation and its impact on rural areas or the problems of small municipalities will be some issues addressed in the coming months.



The Commission agreed at its recent meeting in Barcelona, in the framework of the European Summit of Local Governments, the convening of a National Symposium on Depopulation, to be held in Teruel in October, which will analyze the current situation and the causes of this phenomenon, as well as examples of good practice and future proposals to prevent and reduce the process of depopulation since the mid-twentieth century suffering extensive rural areas of Spain.
In large calendar appointments is completed by the First Congress of Small Towns, scheduled for June in Toledo, in which the Provincial Councils, the Councils and the Island Councils will have a special role.
The Provincial Committee of the FEMP, who heads Fogué Antoni, President of the Barcelona Provincial Council, discussed local financing and analyzed the impact on the Local Government and Local Autonomy Law Unit. Another issue discussed was the draft bill to amend the laws of public sector contracts and procurement procedures for adapting to EU rules.
At the Barcelona meeting were also analyzed various reports prepared by working groups of the Commission concerning the operation of the electronic edition of the official gazettes of the Provinces, road networks and roads and provincial services of extinction fire.
