The FEMP will work with Mercasa to promote trade in municipal markets


Improving working conditions and the retail business and the promotion of better consumer habits, are two of the main objectives of the agreement signed today by the FEMP and Supply Company SA Central Markets (Mercasa). The agreement was signed by the President of the FEMP, Pedro Castro, and the Mercasa, Ignacio Cruz, and also includes performances by integration of the shopping malls in the environments in which they work.



The collaboration between the two entities will be reflected in specific work plans for 2010 and 2011, which is planned to organize a technical workshop to identify the problems and possible alternatives for the future of trade in perishable fresh produce, the introduction of new technologies in the retail market or the design of training plans for the professional qualifications of operators of municipal markets.
 
Also carry out the development of a technical proposal designed to meet municipal markets that exist in Spain, through a census or inventory.
 
The agreement provides, on the other hand, the creation or improvement of commercial facilities in the municipalities through the municipal market format, in areas where there is no private initiative, using the urban growth initiatives or rehabilitation and upgrading of buildings historic old towns.
 
Mercasa President, Ignacio Cruz, said the municipal markets are basic elements of structuring of cities because, among other things, generate quality jobs and provide a forum for communication and relationships between people. In particular, he referred to the contribution of these malls in the integration of immigrant groups, who have places to sell products from their countries of origin. Cruz provided the evidence that has been remodeled Mercasa more than 100 municipal markets in Spain.
 
Pedro Castro said that the signing of this agreement is a further demonstration that the FEMP is the most important to bring to all corners of Spain needed basic infrastructure, such as, in this case, the municipal markets.
