Pedro Castro reaffirms the commitment of the cities with the introduction of the electric car


The President of the FEMP, Pedro Castro, said that local governments considerable commitments to ensure that the use of electric vehicles a reality in the Spanish cities and for this, among other measures, boost their acquisition and use in municipal services.


Pedro Castro has participated in the presentation of the Electric Vehicle Comprehensive Strategy, held at Madrid, chaired by the Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and has benefited from the presence of the Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade, Miguel Sebastian, the Minister for Science and Innovation, Cristina Garmendia, the top executives of companies in sectors involved in the implementation of electric vehicle, unions and government representatives involved in its development.
 
Getafe Mayor said the mayors promote the possibilities and benefits of electric vehicles, prioritizing and allowing movement in restricted areas and extending the hours of loading and unloading, among other measures. Also, he explained, establishing a wide network of charging, and reserving spaces for quick reloads emergency fleet vehicles that provide sensitive services such as health care or police, in addition to fleets of taxis and other groups.
 
Pedro Castro added that this important effort requires the cooperation of the three administrations, the energy companies and manufacturers. "We, the municipalities, we are convinced of the importance of initiatives like this that help us build healthier cities, sustainable, efficient and economically and technologically competitive," he said.

The government's goal is to reach 250,000 electric vehicles in 2014 (pure and hybrid plug-in). To this end, down a set of measures and the development of an Action Plan to two years, with concrete actions in which the Ayuntameintos directly involved, including the creation of a seal with Mobility Electric City as a form of public recognition of the effort local levels to promote the use of these vehicles. Also expected to sign a specific agreement with the FEMP for the dissemination and promotion of electric vehicle. The locations for which these measures are designed existing 145 with over 50,000 inhabitants.
