Among the cities with the highest score are Zaragoza, whose website has been given a score of 9.03 points, followed by a 8.94 Pamplona, Madrid, with a 8.56 and Guadalajara, with a 8.42. Other smaller municipalities, such as Eibar, also scored above average.
The Municipal Accessibility Observatory is an initiative of Fundación ONCE to analyze the level of accessibility of Spanish towns and cities. With the participation of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities (CERMI), FEMP and IMSERSO. Among other things, analyzes such diverse fields as urban planning, public buildings, transportation, communication, technology or processes municipal services to citizens.
In presenting the study, the Director General for Local Cooperation, Ministry of Land Policy, María de los Llanos Castellanos, acknowledged the "great legislative effort" that has been made in Spain in recent years in the field of accessibility and stressed the work of disability organizations in raising awareness of the barriers "and limit our liking at all." On government funds intended for municipalities, said they have earmarked 120 million to improve accessibility and 500 million to improve the accessibility of technology.
That effort was not just legislative. The study also shows performed by the municipalities, although there is still a long way to go to achieve full accessibility at municipal sites. Indeed, the main problems identified are, as noted Jesus Hernandez, director of Accessibility ONCE Foundation, in multimedia applications such as Flash and PDF files.
The event also involved the Director General of IMSERSO Causapié Purification, Executive Vice President of the ONCE Foundation, Alberto Durán, and Secretary General of the FEMP, Isaura Leal, who highlighted the work undertaken by the Observatory, because their measurements and observations help to improve accessibility at the local level and highlight the value of good municipal practices.
