Thirty municipalities get the sign City of Science and Innovation


30 Spanish cities have been received for the first time the sign "City of Science and Innovation" award by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, which recognizes their significant effort and commitment they have been playing with R & D + i and its contribution from the local to shift production model



This badge recognizes thirty municipalities in three categories according to the number of inhabitants. The distinction is obtained for a three-year period is renewed or not based on the actions of cities in that period. During the event, will feature a number of benefits under the policies of R + D + i to become part of the Network of Cities of Science and Innovation Network (INNPULSO). This initiative offers a unique opportunity to strengthen and promote science and innovation from Spanish acting locally.
 

In this first edition, has been awarded the distinction "City of Science and Innovation" to those municipalities that have demonstrated a greater commitment to innovative projects from the State Fund for Employment and Local Sustainability. The evaluation of candidates has also involved the collaboration of the Ministry of Land Policy.

The investments made by municipalities in R + D + i under the Fund managed by the Ministry of Planning Policy totaled EUR 916 million distributed over a total of 7,650 projects (30.1% of total projects .)

 
10 municipalities were selected from each of the three existing categories to recognize innovative efforts (see box)

Innovation projects that are considered include business parks, science parks and technological knowledge centers and business incubators, as well as to improve the green economy, promote innovation in health economics and health care, modernization municipal administration, the centers of culture and popular science-technology, etc.

In early 2011 is planned the act of presenting awards to be held in Madrid and will be attended by Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess of Asturias.

Network of Cities of Science and Innovation Network (INNPULSO)

The councils have been awarded this distinction becomes part of the "Network of Cities of Science and Innovation Network (INNPULSO)," as agreed last October 8 in the Council of Ministers ", which will enhance the relationship between local and collaborative projects.

This is a permanent network with a vocation to grow, and demonstrates that the paradigm shift has already begun, and the municipalities will play a decisive role in it.

Join this network has a number of benefits under the policies of R & D and local development:

• Authorization for use of the distinction in the communication and promotion of the city, both nationally and internationally.
• Promotion and support of collaborative projects between the municipalities that are integrated into the Network of Cities of Science and Innovation.
• Integration of the Internet as a reference entity within the Working Group on Tourism MITYC MICINN-scientific.
• Cities International Promotion of Science and Innovation in international events related to R & D development based on knowledge.
• Preferred Consideration of these cities for the location of scientific and technological facilities owned or state participation as well as to locate network nodes MICINN Information Points I + D + i, (PIDI network).
• Prioritization of these sites as preferred to organize department meetings with the regional governments and other actors in the R & D, as well as holding conferences and seminars of Public Research.
