Presented the Best Practice Guide to promote reconciliation at the municipal level
The Institute for Women, along with the FEMP and the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities (KS), has produced a Good Practice Guide to promote the reconciliation of personal, family and work from local entities. The work compiles experiences already developed and designed as an instrument of guidance for councils to develop active policies of reconciliation and equality.
The document has been submitted by the Director of the Institute for Women, Laura Seara, together with the General Secretariat of the FEMP, Isaura Leal, and First Secretary, Embassy of Norway Solveig Verheyleweghen.
Targeted at municipalities, arises in the framework of the transactional "Balance", led by the Women's Institute and developed by the Norwegian Association FEMP and KS, which aims to display in public administration strategies for action promoting reconciliation and equality between men and women.
The guide shows a total of 62 experiences, the most illustrative of the 100 analyzed, and participated in its elaboration 46 municipalities, of which 42 Spanish and 4 counties.
In a second phase of work, 10 municipalities have committed to making a diagnosis and develop specific plans for reconciliation, which will consider actions and audits both internally at their own organization, as out, so they can be effective in other areas of social and economic life of the municipality.
The ten councils that carry out this pilot are Barbate, Puente Genil, Jaen, Alcala de Henares, Aranda de Duero, Arousa, Valls, Acoruña, Eivissa and Icod de los Vinos. The total population benefiting from this project is about 800,000.
The Director of the Institute for Women, Laura Seara, explained that, although in general terms the settlement has not been far too present in municipal policies, mostly for lack of resources, "there are many very good job made "by some municipalities, therefore it was necessary to summarize these experiences in a document. The Guide, he added, shows the viability of local policies that facilitate the reconciliation.
The Secretary General of the FEMP, meanwhile, stressed that this is a pioneering project, which can serve as an example for other European countries, and praised the methodology used in the Guide, which serves both to a small town to a large city.
Isaura Leal requested the involvement of politicians and municipal officers in the implementation of measures facilitating the reconciliation and invited all the municipalities, provincial councils and Island Councils to join the initiative launched by the Institute for Women, FEMP and Norway because, as noted, the policies of equality and reconciliation not only make us happier, both men and women, but also more competitive, also added, these policies do not necessarily have to be matched by an economic cost.
The Secretary General of the FEMP also said that since the Federation is urging political parties to incorporate the balance policies in their programs ahead of municipal elections next May.
